A NEW ADVENTURE WITH POWERS SQUARED

I became a ✨ C O L O R I S T ✨

For a comic book!

Even though coloring is my least practiced skill....

After I came to terms with my previous job, I asked an old friend for advice about comics and was offered a completely different type of job definitely more oriented to my first career. Their team was looking for someone to be the new colorist for their current comic project POWERS SQUARED, as my friend (previous Colorist) would be moving up to take the place of the main artist. I have been passively following them except for the previous two to three months before the offer, so the last thing I had expected is to have the opportunity to be part of their team.

I happily accepted the offer, immediately felt a pit in my stomach realizing I would need to show my face for their livestreams. Luckily, I still have a box of masks so I'm still able to conceal part of my face, though can't say that I'm set up for IRL streaming anything (the room will eventually be cleaned up, I promise). Not sure if to continue without the chibi model or do that until I can finish the full size Vtuber model. I have also finally bought a mic! A proper one as I have been using a webcam's mic for my streams.

While I still have my same streaming setup online, I'm currently trying to revamp the confusing mess that is Streamelements and SLOBS, preparing new assets, starting a new Vtuber model for my personal streams and up-started my art trading group again on Discord. More on online art related activies in a future post.

As you can see in my gallery, I have quite a few years illustrating. However this will be my first being part of this industry that isn't self-regimented and there will be a lot more to learn to make my coloring work flow smooth on mobile devices. I'll need to halt my acrylic goods research and CNC Titans classes as I haven't made as much progress as I would have liked. I need to figure out a way to set the flat colors on the go and work on the detailed work at home.

Come to find out during my coloring trial the Samsung Tab S6 tablet has an inconvenient quirk, where if the pen tip is hovering less than an inch above the surface of the screen it will not detect my fingers trying to zoom in or out the canvas, thinking I'm still trying to use the pen. It would be fine if it was something doable with a single tap from the pen, but we live in a society where we casually use two or three fingers frequently enough on the phone that this hover sensing feature becomes exceptionally distracting. I have looked into solutions and seems like there's no way to disable that feature or mitigate its effects, the only solution I find is adjusting the tip but I have already changed tips various times. I was considering using the iPad mini, but the pens are expensive and still need the accessories to avoid the scratching and the breaking that Apple products are known for. Also not an Apple user, so I'm still not too convinced it.

Think I'll be continuing to make weekly posts. Not a promise since I have said that before and something always comes up where I end up not being able to. So we will see how long the postings will last.

If you would like to see more relating to my comic coloring, you can visit my Twitch at 3pm PST Fridays for art sessions where I show the learning coloring process of the comic (and passive sneak peaks to the future chapters). Usually, the Powers Squared team streams their podcasts later in the day at 6pm, like today! The other artists and I will be doing a drawing challenge today while the hosts are away at San Diego Comic Con 😏 So if you have the time, come by and say hi. We will be doing art requests if there is anyone in the chat!
